Early Education at Charter Oak Unified

At Charter Oak Unified, we believe every child deserves a strong start. Our early education programs, Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), and Kindergarten, are designed to nurture curiosity, build confidence, and lay the foundation for lifelong success. Families can feel at home knowing their child is supported by caring educators and a safe, welcoming community.
Preschool
Charter Oak Preschool offers children ages 3 (by December 1) to 4 years old an exciting first experience in a school setting. Through play-based learning, students develop social skills, early literacy and math foundations, and the confidence to take on new challenges. With small class sizes and highly qualified teachers, our preschoolers thrive in an environment that celebrates discovery, creativity, and community.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
Transitional Kindergarten is the bridge between preschool and kindergarten, giving children an extra year of growth and readiness. Families of children who turn four years old on or before September 1, 2026, are encouraged to enroll in TK.
TK offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum that blends structured learning with hands-on exploration. Students build essential skills such as early literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, and collaboration in a nurturing, small-class environment.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is a milestone year at Charter Oak Unified where our youngest learners take their first steps into elementary school. Families of children who turn five years old on or before September 1, 2026, are invited to enroll in Kindergarten.
Our full-day program provides a balanced focus on academics, creativity, and social development. Children engage in literacy, math, science, and the arts while also developing critical life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and respect for others. At COUSD, kindergarten is more than preparation for first grade. It is the beginning of a journey where every child is valued and inspired to reach their potential.
