Supporting Student Mental Health and Wellness
Charter Oak Unified School District is committed to supporting the academic, social, emotional, and mental well-being of every student.
As part of that commitment, Charter Oak Unified is participating in California's Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), a statewide effort to strengthen access to behavioral health and wellness services for children and youth.
Through CYBHI, Charter Oak Unified has partnered with Paradigm to help the District receive reimbursement from health insurance providers for certain eligible school-based behavioral health services.
What CYBHI Means for Families
There is no out-of-pocket cost to families.
- Families will not receive a bill;
- There are no copays or deductibles;
- Existing health insurance coverage is not changed; and
- Reimbursement helps the District sustain and strengthen student mental health and wellness supports.
How It Works
Many of the behavioral health and wellness supports available through our schools are services Charter Oak Unified already provides.
CYBHI creates a way for the District to receive reimbursement for certain eligible services, which may include psychoeducation, screenings and assessments, counseling, behavioral health interventions, and care coordination. These reimbursements provide an additional source of funding to help maintain strong student support programs.
Information Families May Be Asked to Provide
Families may be asked to provide basic health insurance information and consent for the District to seek reimbursement when an eligible service is provided.
- Health insurance carrier;
- Policyholder name; and
- Member or policy identification number.
Providing insurance information does not mean that every student service will be billed, nor does participation in CYBHI mean that a student has been diagnosed with a mental health condition.
Protecting Your Privacy
Student and family privacy remains a priority. Health insurance and student information related to CYBHI is handled in accordance with applicable state and federal privacy and confidentiality requirements.
