Secure your COUSD account with MFA
Secure your COUSD account with MFA
Multi-Factor Authentication adds a second verification step that helps protect your account even if your password is compromised.
All employees and other users with a cousd.net Google account must complete enrollment.
Complete these four steps
The process generally takes only a few minutes. Have the phone or device you plan to use for verification nearby.
Use your COUSD account
Open a browser and verify that your active Google profile uses your cousd.net address.
Follow Google’s prompts
Select an available verification method and complete the on-screen setup instructions.
Confirm enrollment
Make sure 2-Step Verification shows as turned on before closing the page.
What if I don’t want to use my phone?
Don’t want to use your phone? No problem. You’ll need a phone to set up 2-Step Verification at first, but you can then immediately change your second step. Here are some alternatives:
A brief extra step when Google needs to verify you
After enrollment, Google may ask you to confirm your identity during sign-in. The exact prompt depends on your account, device, and available verification methods.
On a trusted district or personal device
You may be offered “Don’t ask again on this device.” Select it only on a device you regularly use and do not share.
- Keep browser cookies enabled
- Use your own browser profile
- Lock the device when unattended
On a shared or public device
Never trust a device that is shared with others. Use a private browsing window when appropriate and sign out completely when finished.
- Do not save passwords
- Do not select “Don’t ask again”
- Close all private windows after use
Common questions
Try these quick answers first. If you still cannot enroll or sign in, contact the Technology Department.
I am signed in with more than one Google account. What should I do?
Select your profile picture in the upper-right corner and confirm that your COUSD account is active before opening the enrollment page. A separate browser profile for your COUSD account can help prevent confusion.
Why am I being asked to verify again on a trusted device?
Google may ask again if browser cookies were cleared, you changed browsers or profiles, your password changed, an administrator ended your session, or Google detected an unusual sign-in.
I did not receive a Google prompt.
Confirm that your phone has internet access and that you are signed in to the correct Google account on the phone. On the sign-in page, select “Try another way” if another enrolled method is available.
What if I receive a prompt for a sign-in I did not start?
Deny the request. Do not approve unexpected prompts or share verification codes. Change your password and contact the Technology Department if you believe someone is attempting to access your account.
What happens if I do not enroll before October 8?
You will be required to complete MFA setup before you can continue accessing your COUSD Google account.
