• Welcome to Badillo Elementary School's Web Site! We are the home of the Panthers, where our Staff, Students, Parents and Community ROAR (are Respectful, Organized, Always safe, Responsible) every where we go, 100% of the time!

Badillo is one of five elementary schools in the Charter Oak Unified School District. Badillo, which is located in Covina, and has approximately 460 students enrolled in grades Transitional kindergarten through sixth. It is our goal at Badillo to empower and inspire all children to learn, hope, dream, contribute, excel, create, and appreciate.

I am so excited to begin another year as Principal of Badillo. My hope as we begin the school year is to build on the successes of last year and create a school environment in which all of our students can be successful. Badillo Elementary is a school community committed to delivering to all students a premier educational experience directly aligned to the California State Standards. We strive to provide a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment filled with a variety of programs and services to meet the varied learning needs of our students. Our main focus for the 2016-2017 year is to continue to increase the number of students who are proficient in the area of reading. Last year, we introduced our weekly Family Literacy Nights, which we will continue every Tuesday from 4:30-6:30 this year, for families to come and read together and for students who are ready to take an AR quiz. We are proud of all our students who reached their reading goals last year and received a Reading Success T-shirt. However, we want even more students successful this year. Therefore, with our renewed focus on reading, we have set our school-wide goal for reading success at 80%. Only through significant effort by our students, teachers and families will we be able to achieve this goal. Please ask your child's teacher for ways that you can assist with this goal at home.

Technology proficiency is also a top priority at Badillo. We know that today’s learners are tomorrow’s leaders and to lead students must be taught 21st century skills. We believe the most efficient way to accomplish this is to have a device in every single hand. Therefore, we have committed funds this year to purchase chrome books. By the end of this year, all students in grades 2nd-6th will have their own device to use throughout the day to access and practice the many on-line learning sites available for them:  i-Ready, AR, AM, Math Facts in a Flash, Type to Learn, GO! Math, and Benchmark Advance. This year we are even adding two opportunities for students to get extra practice with their on-line learning: our i-Reay Club meets every Wednesday from 1:30-2:30 in our computer lab and Family Technology Nights is every Wednesday from 4:30-6:30 in room C-4. Our hope is that many of our students and families will take advantage of these excellent opportunities to get connected!

We are proud to announce that Badillo is an AVID elementary school! AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID Elementary promotes student success by implementing specific skills that enable all students to be prepared and organized. These skills are habits, behaviors, and strategies that students can learn, strengthen and maintain throughout their academic careers.

As an AVID Elementary School, we recognize that a successful school experience is the result of a shared responsibility between the home and the school. Our staff is committed to ensuring your student receives the greatest learning experience possible, and we see you, the parents and guardians, as our partners in the learning process. We firmly believe that when the home and school work together as a team, our students gain immeasurable benefits. In that spirit, I invite you to take a few moments to read our newly revised Family Handbook located under the Quick Links section of our Home Page. Our goal in creating this Family Handbook is to ensure your student has all of the information necessary to be successful at Badillo Elementary. By reviewing each page together as a family, it will help your child to clearly understand what is expected of them as a student and what they can expect of us as a staff.

As the Principal of Badillo, I pledge to you that our students and their safety and learning are my number one priorities. Please know that I am here to support you and your student, and I welcome you to contact with me if there is any way I can further assist you in meeting your child's needs.
