  • Welcome to 4th Grade!
    desk
This is my first year in fourth grade, so I am excited to be learning fourth grade curriculum along with your child.   Glen Oak is a STEAM Academy, and students will be able to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math activities all year, in our classrooms and in the STEAM room. This year we begin a new Language Arts Curriculum, called "Benchmark Advantage". We will be able to read and write in our books, looking for and citing evidence that supports our answers. We will write opinion pieces, persuasive pieces, and informational text, using our books and doing additional research on various topics.  In math, we will explore and learn place value to one million. We will also continue working with multiplication and division, fractions, decimals and geometry. In Social Studies we will learn all about our beautiful state of California - its history, people past and present, and geography, with a culminating experience of flying to the state capital - Sacramento! We also will explore physical, earth, and life science. We do PE, Art, and Music as well. Our school also has acquired chrome books for us to use daily!  It should be a busy, fun year!

  •                                                    Homework

Fourth graders are expected to read 40 minutes per day, keeping track of what they read on a Reading Log, which should be kept in their homework folder. This is turned in at the end of the month, with a parent's signature on it. Students also have math nightly, practicing what we have learned that day in class. If a project or report is due, parents will know in advance. Students have an Agenda, which they learn to keep track of their assignments, and should be checked frequently by the parent.
