1:1 Device Access Model

Charter Oak Unified School District provides students with consistent access to digital learning tools at school and, for secondary students, at home.

7–8 Middle School

1:1 Take-Home

Devices are checked out to students for the school year for use at school and at home. Students keep their devices at home during the summer.

9–12 High School

1:1 Take-Home

Devices are checked out to students for use at school and at home. Students keep their devices during the summer, except graduating seniors, who must return them before the last day of school.

Expectations of a 1:1 Program

  • Every middle and high school student should bring their fully charged device to school each day.
  • Students who check out a district device are expected to take proper care of it.
  • Students leaving their school or COUSD must return their device before departure.

Chromebook Care and Use

  • Charge your device every night.
  • Carry your device with both hands, and do not run while carrying it.
  • Close the lid before moving your Chromebook. Remove pencils, pens, and other items from the keyboard before closing it.
  • Keep food and drinks away from your device.
  • Use caution when placing your device in a backpack:
    • Keep sharp or heavy objects from pressing against the Chromebook.
    • Do not throw or drop a backpack containing a Chromebook.
    • Do not sit or lean against a backpack containing a Chromebook.
Daily reminder: A charged and well-cared-for Chromebook helps ensure students are ready to learn each day.
