Charter Oak Unified School District is proud to announce that the Charter Oak High School Sports Medicine Team has been named the #1 team in the nation for schools with an enrollment between 1,000–1,999 students and #2 in the nation overall by the American Academic Competition Institute (AACI). This incredible honor highlights the hard work, talent, and dedication of both the students and their instructors.
The AACI competition includes both team and individual scoring. Charter Oak High School students dominated the competition, earning four of the top five individual spots in the nation:
- Ezekiel Veazey-Kline – 1st in the Nation
- Molly Gelino – 2nd in the Nation
- Angelina Wang – 3rd in the Nation
- David Estrada – 5th in the Nation
These outstanding achievements reflect not only individual excellence but also a strong, collaborative team culture.
Adding to their accolades, the team also placed #5 in the nation at the 2025 National Anatomage Tournament held in Las Vegas, NV on May 30–31. The competition featured thousands of teams from across the country. Charter Oak’s team advanced to the national stage after outperforming 678 schools in regional qualifiers, emerging as the top team in the western United States.
The Anatomage Tournament challenges students to demonstrate their knowledge using a 3-D, life-sized, interactive anatomy tool commonly used in medical institutions. This innovative competition pushes students to think critically and collaborate under pressure—skills that will benefit them in future healthcare careers.
“We are incredibly proud of this national recognition, but the credit truly belongs to our students, who have dedicated hundreds of hours to studying, training, and preparing for these competitions,” said Dr. Danny Kim, Superintendent of Charter Oak Unified School District. “This accomplishment is also a reflection of the exceptional leadership of Dr. Matt Simok and the strength of our Sports Medicine Pathway. Through hands-on learning, real-world internships, and a rigorous academic program, our students are gaining the skills and confidence to excel not just in competition, but in future healthcare careers.”
