Dear Charter Oak Community,

 

It is hard to believe we are already more than a month into the 2026–2027 school year. Over the past several weeks, I have had the opportunity to visit classrooms and campuses throughout our district, and I continue to be inspired by the energy, engagement, and growth I am already seeing from our students.

 

This year, we began with a simple theme: Be Curious.

 

Curiosity is at the heart of learning. It encourages students to ask questions, explore new ideas, take academic risks, and think more deeply. It is also an important part of how we prepare our students for success in college, careers, and life beyond our schools.

 

One of my favorite parts of serving as superintendent is seeing that learning firsthand. During my classroom visits, I have watched students challenge themselves, collaborate with classmates, build new skills, and gain confidence, all with the guidance and encouragement of teachers who are creating engaging, supportive learning environments each day. Seeing that growth so early in the year is exciting, and I know it is only the beginning.

 

That growth also depends on students being in school each day. September is Attendance Awareness Month, and it is a good reminder that every day of instruction matters. We know illnesses and unexpected circumstances happen, but whenever possible, we encourage families to make attendance a priority and to reach out to your school if you need support.

 

Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for the many ways you support their learning. We have an exciting year ahead, and I look forward to continuing to visit our schools, connect with our families, and celebrate all that our students will accomplish.
