Dear Charter Oak Families,
As we continue moving forward together this school year, I want to take a moment to talk about one of Charter Oak Unified School District’s Five Pillars: Financial Responsibility and Facilities.
Like many school districts across California, we are navigating a time of financial uncertainty. With state and federal funding challenges impacting education, it is more important than ever that we are thoughtful and strategic with every dollar we spend.
At Charter Oak, we have been proactive in strengthening our fiscal practices. This year, we formed a Budget Advisory Committee, a cross-functional team made up of staff from different departments and schools, to review how we can use our resources more efficiently. This team has been tasked to provide input and feedback on how the school district can best make spending decisions that have the greatest positive impact on our students.
One of our ongoing challenges is that school districts do not receive dedicated funding for facilities upkeep and modernization. While we continue to maintain and improve our campuses within our available means, we also recognize that many of our buildings are aging and will need additional investment in the years ahead. We are exploring pathways forward to ensure our facilities remain safe, welcoming, and conducive to learning for all students.
Even in the face of these fiscal challenges, our commitment to students has not changed. We remain steadfast in providing the exceptional programs and services that make Charter Oak Unified truly special, from our strong academic offerings and innovative career pathways to our award-winning visual and performing arts and championship athletic programs.
Together, we will continue to make decisions that reflect our shared values and commitment to the future of our students and community.
Sincerely,
Danny Kim, Ed.D.
