Kristin McGuire - President

Kristin McGuire resides in Charter Oak with her husband, an Air Force veteran, and two daughters, both of whom are educated in Charter Oak schools. Kristin is the Western Region Director for a national nonprofit that focuses on higher education and health care policy for young people. Kristin is a champion for education equity. She’s played a large role in shaping laws that benefit college students of all ages, such as the Student Borrowers Bill of Rights (AB 376) and the Student Civic and Voter Empowerment Act (AB 963). Committed to public service, Kristin currently serves as a steering committee member for the California Asset Building Coalition, a member of Los Angeles African American Women in Public Policy, and is appointed to the California Workforce Pathways Joint Advisory Committee. A proud Toro hailing from CSU Dominguez Hills where she studied Public Administration, Kristin is also a PTA mom, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and a dog-mom to Blue, a rescue. Gregg Peterson - Vice President

Gregg Peterson was appointed to the Charter Oak Governing Board in 2017 and was last elected to Governing Board member in 2022. Gregg is a high school teacher who teaches both Introduction to Administration of Justice and Introduction to Forensics classes at a high school in Covina. Gregg began teaching in 2017 after retiring from a 28 year law enforcement career with the Covina Police Department. Gregg is also the Administrator of the San Gabriel Valley Law Enforcement Explorer Academy, which is a 12-week educational program that introduces youth of his community to a career in public safety. Gregg holds a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Organizational Management with an emphasis on Public Administration. Gregg is married to his wife Pauline, has three daughters and lives in the City of Covina, California.

Cristian Aguilar, Ph.D. - Trustee

Dr. Cristian Aguilar is a native of Charter Oak, completing his K-12 education in the district before earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biotechnology from Cal Poly Pomona, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Developmental and Cell Biology from UC Irvine. During his time at UC Irvine, he became a pedagogical fellow studying advanced teaching strategies. Dr. Aguilar has focussed his career on supporting and improving education at all levels, having partnered with the National Science Foundation and U.S. Department of Education. As a biology professor at Azusa Pacific University, Dr. Aguilar is a strong proponent of science outreach in the community, and has worked with numerous organizations to support the inclusion of underrepresented minorities and women in science. As a musician, he has also supported and worked closely with our visual and performing arts programs in the Charter Oak District.

Jeanette Flores - Trustee

 
Trustee Area: 3
Jeanette V. Flores is a native of the East San Gabriel Valley. Ms. Flores chose Covina as the place to raise her children and is proud to have her four children attend Charter Oak Unified School District schools. Previously, she advanced policies to support healthier food choices and opportunities for physical activity in under-resourced communities. Ms. Flores is a graduate of the H.O.P.E, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality leadership institute and a graduate of EMERGE California, a political candidate training program for women who aspire to run for office. She was also named Woman of the Year for the 48th Assembly District. She serves on the YWCA San Gabriel Valley Board of Directors and is proud to be the first Latina on the board. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and her master’s degree in public administration from California State University, Long Beach.

David Rose - Trustee

 
Trustee Area: 1
David R. Rose lives in the Los Angeles County Charter Oak incorporated area with his wife and three children. He works as a special education teacher in San Bernardino. Mr. Rose holds an associate's degree in liberal arts from Pierce College, bachelor's in health education, and a master's in special education from Cal State Northridge along with a certificate of eligibility administrative services credential from National University in San Bernardino. He is also an adjunct professor at the East Los Angeles College teaching American Sign Language.
