On October 2, Charter Oak Unified School District proudly cut the ribbon on its new Student and Family Resource Center at the Sunflower Learning Center campus. The center provides food, clothing, baby care items, hygiene supplies, and school essentials to families in need, while also serving as a vital hub of support for homeless and foster youth.
This is the second Resource Center in Charter Oak Unified. While the original location continues to serve families in the southern portion of the district, the new center will primarily serve community members in the north and east areas. District and school site leaders recognized that many families who needed help most did not always have reliable transportation, so opening a second center on the opposite side of the district brings essential resources closer to home.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks about the positive impact of the Resource Center, followed by a tour of the new facility. Distinguished guests included Glendora Chamber of Commerce President Joe Cina; Board of Trustees Members Jeanette Flores, Kristin McGuire, and David Rose; representatives from the offices of Congressman Gil Cisneros, Assemblymember Blanca Rubio, and State Senator Sasha Renée Perez; as well as members of the Glendora Police Department. Glendora Mayor David Fredendall and Councilmembers Karen Davis and Mendell Thompson also joined in celebrating this important milestone.
The opening of the new Resource Center underscores Charter Oak Unified’s ongoing commitment to supporting the whole child, not only academically, but by meeting the essential needs that help every student and family feel safe, valued, and at home.
