Frequently Asked Questions
How old does my child need to be?
The elementary school program is for students in elementary grades (TK through 6th grade) and the middle school program is for students in middle school (7th and 8th grade).
When does enrollment/registration begin?
Enrollment began in March of 2025, and the process takes place continuously throughout the school year until capacity is reached. Please contact the office to see if there is space for your student(s) or fill out our EDEP Interest List/Lista de intereses del EDEP. Registration forms are available online.
When does enrollment/registration end?
Enrollment is ongoing and open until spaces are all filled. When a class is full and there is a need, a waitlist will open. Open spaces are offered to waitlisted students first. Being on the waitlist does not guarantee enrollment for your child.
What are the qualifications of teachers?
All of our teachers have college class work and training in an educational setting. Above all we seek teachers with experience and passion to be in this field. All staff members undergo a comprehensive background check prior to employment and are CPR, First Aid, AED certified. Our teachers are highly qualified, caring, professional educators.
How do I register my child in the EDEP before/after school program?
After checking with our office to ensure there is space for your student or filling out the EDEP Interest List and being informed there is space, you may then begin the registration process.

Does my child have to be in the Charter Oak Unified School District to participate in the EDEP before and after school care?
Yes, your child needs to attend a school in the COUSD in order to enroll in our EDEP program.
Why does the EDEP charge a registration fee?
With several hundred families seeking placement at any given moment, managing our application process takes a great amount of time and effort. We charge a nominal fee for families to apply to ensure that we are working with families who genuinely want to be part of our community.
What are your hours of operation?
During the school year, the before school care hours are 6:30 a.m. – 8 a.m. and the after-school care hours are from school dismissal – 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Is there a cost for attendance?
Contracted fees are based on the child’s age and care needed. Please see the Fee Schedule:
2025-2026 Fee Schedule
Lista de tarifas 2025-2026
Your contract makes clear your payment due dates. If you start at the beginning of the year, the first monthly payment is due on the first day your student attends. Monthly amounts after that are due on the first of the month (i.e. September 1st) with a grace period until the 5th. Any fees not paid by the 5th will result in a late fee. You are expected to pay your contracted amount at the agreed upon intervals. You will not receive a bill or invoice for these regular, contracted amounts.
Do you offer fee reduction based on income?
For the 2025-2026 school year we have subsidy funding through a program called ELO-P. It is only available to TK-6th grade students. 7th and 8th graders will not be eligible for this program. To see the criteria to qualify for the ELO-P subsidy, go to the following page: Charter Oak Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP). If you want to know if you are already on our qualified student list, please reach out to us.
If you do not qualify for the ELO-P subsidy, we do not offer any fee reduction based on income through our department. However, we do partner with DCFS and the Pomona Unified School District Child Development Department, and they provide funding and subsidies for childcare for our area. If you think you may qualify, please feel free to contact the Pomona Unified School District at (909) 397-4740. Ask about subsidies for childcare. You can find out more information about their program at the Pomona USD Child Development Subsidy Programs.
What if I need extra care beyond my contract?
Please inform the site supervisor or the Child Development Office, if you have a one time or temporary need for increased care beyond your service contract. A request to add care on a permanent basis should be submitted here:
Change of Contract (English)
Formulario de Cambio de Contrato (Español)
How do you group children?
We typically determine the placement of your child based on age; however, we consider many other factors upon deciding the makeup of a classroom. Such factors would include: ratios, personalities, age, readiness, development, etc.
What will my child do in the after-school program?
Students in grades TK – K are picked up from their classrooms by an EDEP staff member and escorted to the program. Students in grades 1-8 transition to the program independently and meet the EDEP staff at the designated program check-in location where attendance is taken.
The order of program activities varies based on the program schedule. During the program day, students work on assigned homework, participate in enrichment activities including structured recreation and health and fitness, and receive a nutritious supper and snack.
Do you take the children outdoors?
Yes, if the weather is permitting we take children outside daily. Children should be dressed appropriately for playing on our playgrounds and taking group walks.
Do you help my child with their homework?
The daily schedule has 30 minutes to 1 hour designated for children to do homework. Enrichment staff will encourage and assist students during homework time, but they will not tutor children individually. Children who do not have homework will be offered positive, quiet activities during the provided homework time. While our goal is to support students in completing all their homework, the program is NOT a homework completion program. The EDEP staff provide basic homework support and help students remain on task and use the time wisely to complete their homework.
Can my child use their cellular phone or laptop during the program?
Use of school issued and personal electronic devices will be at the discretion of the enrichment staff and in accordance with the school’s policies.
Are meals provided?
We provide an assortment of healthy, age appropriate snacks and drinks and if they are in the after school program they will also be offered supper.
What is your discipline policy?
The EDEP offers a highly structured and safe program with clear behavior expectations for all program participants. The physical and emotional safety of students and their mental wellbeing are important. Our goal is to assist students in the development of self-discipline and understanding of appropriate behavior. We do not use physical or verbal punishment under any circumstance. We use positive guidance and redirection to acknowledge children’s feelings and emotions and provide them with expressive language, problem solving techniques, self-calming activities, and choices geared towards their interest.
Please see the 2025-2026 Parent Handbook / Manual para padres for our complete discipline policy.
What if my child gets sick?
If they are home sick, please be sure to let both your school office and the Extended Day Enrichment Program staff know that your child will be out sick. There is no fee reduction for days missed because of illness. If they become ill while in our care, we’ll contact you or authorized persons from your Emergency and Identification Information so that your child can be picked up as soon as possible from the EDEP.
