COCC FAQs

1. How old does my child need to be?

To be eligible, a child must be at least 2 years of age on or before the start date.

2. When does enrollment/registration begin?

As a year-round program, we accept applications throughout the year until our classes are full. Once they reach capacity, we start a wait list. Applications are available online. Applications will also be available at Child Development office. Complete applications with supporting documents are recommended to be turned in as soon as possible. (Always check with the office first to see if we have space for your child.)

3. When does enrollment/registration end?

Enrollment is ongoing and open until spaces are all filled. When a class is full, a waitlist will open. Please see “Waitlist” on website to sign up. Open seats are offered to waitlisted students first.

4. Why does the COCC charge a registration fee?

With several hundred families seeking placement at any given moment, managing our application process takes a great amount of time and effort. We charge a nominal fee for families to apply to ensure that we are working with families who genuinely want to be part of our community.

5. At what age does the COCC accept students?

We serve children from 2-5 years old.

6. How do you group children?

We typically determine the placement of your child based on age; however, we consider many other factors upon deciding the makeup of a classroom. Such factors would include: ratio, personalities, age, readiness, development, etc.

7. Is this a full day preschool program?

Yes, the COCC opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 6:00 p.m. Our preschool follows a 218 day academic year calendar (August-July). The COCC offers 3-day or 5-day childcare, and the fees are based on whether you have your child with us up to 8 hours or over 8 hours.

8. What are your hours of operation?

Normal hours are from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

9. Does my child need to be potty trained at the time of registration?

No, we do not have a potty trained prerequisite.

10. Is there a cost for attendance?

Family fees generally apply. Contracted fees are based on child’s age and care needed. Please see the “Fee Schedule” on our website or contact the Child Development Office at (626) 914-3961, ext. 60221, ext. 60208, or ext. 60237 for more information. You may also email us at [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected].

11. Do you offer fee reduction based on income?

While we do not offer any fee reduction based on income, we do partner with DCFS and the Pomona Unified School District Child Development Department, and they provide funding and subsidies for childcare for our area. If you think you may qualify, please feel free to contact the Pomona Unified School District at (909) 397-4740. Ask about subsidies for childcare. You can find out more information about their program at https://childdev.pusd.org/apps/pages/cc_subsidy_programs.

12. What are the qualifications of teachers?

All of our teachers have college class work, training in early childhood education, and a Child Development Teacher Permit or higher. Above all we seek teachers with experience and passion to be in this field. All staff members undergo a comprehensive background check and work closely with each other to develop lesson plans. Our teachers are highly qualified, caring, professional educators.
